The three-time NHSI title holders—including 2012—feature quantity and quality. Eight of the nine seniors have committed to high-major programs, including 6-4 Nigel Williams-Goss (Washington recruit), 6-3 Stanford Robinson (Indiana), 6-4 Allerik Freeman (UCLA), 6-11 Christian Wood (UNLV), 6-7 Dion Wade (Auburn), 6-9 Gavin Schilling (Michigan State) and 7-0 Benas Griciunas (Auburn). Senior swing man Braian Angola has interest from San Diego State, Gonzaga and George Mason. Since 2007, Findlay Prep is 191-8 and more importantly have a gaudy 15-2 mark in ESPN televised games, including last year’s 86-83 overtime win over Montverde Academy (FL) in the final.
To say coach Todd Simon’s team is in demand would be an understatement. This season Findlay Prep has flown more than 20,000 miles and 1,400 more on the ground. The caravan has touched down in 12 states and during one stretch (Dec. 12-Feb. 6) the team went 55 straight days without a home game, including long trip to Hawaii where they defeated NHSI teams Montrose Christian (MD) and La Lumiere School (IN) to claim the Iolani Classic crown. In January, the Pilots used a furious fourth-quarter rally to clip Montverde Academy (FL) at the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, MA. Heading into the NHSI, Findlay has a 53-game win streak dating back to December 2011.
